Cherry has lived in Surrey since 1972 and moved to Ocean Park in 1991. She has a Masters in Nursing degree from UBC and a Diploma in Gerontology from SFU. Cherry worked for over 45 years in healthcare with the majority of that time spent leading programs for Older Adults in complex healthcare organizations within the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley. Throughout her career, she was committed to improving the care of frail older adults and supporting family caregivers. Cherry led the development and implementation of an education program designed to teach principles of person-centred care practices to staff caring for people with dementia living in residential care. She continues to have a special interest in ensuring that frail older adults are supported to remain living in their community. In 2013, Cherry was the 2013 recipient of the Canadian Healthcare Association Marion Stephenson Award for outstanding contribution to community care.
