I wanted to find a way to reach out to our amazing volunteers and show them that we truly appreciate and respect the work they have been doing for seniors in our community. Due to COVID-19 numbers increasing, we decided to change our ‘Picnic in the Park’ celebration for volunteers to something else. So, on September 12, we staged a parade throughout the Surrey / White Rock area, going to the homes of our volunteers in decorated cars, with gift bags, and a packed lunch sponsored by Amica - White Rock. Volunteers then joined us on Zoom for a picnic and a performance by local artist Theda Phoenix (www.thedaphoenix.com).
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of the people who worked so hard to bring this amazing event to fruition. Thank you Amica for sponsoring the meals for the volunteers! Thank you to all the staff who came out on their weekend to make the day special. Thank you Marissa and Ajit for volunteering to join us on the parade and delivering messages of gratitude.
Thank you to Laura’s Coffee Corner, Pelican Rouge, Black Bond Books, and Sheila’s Catering for providing gifts that were used in our wonderful gift basket draws. Thank you Theda for your beautiful performance that was enjoyed by all who participated in our Zoom "picnic".
I feel very blessed to be able to work every day in an environment where I get to help people find ways of sharing their skills and encouraging kindness and generosity. I have been a volunteer and I know how important the contributions volunteers make is to our community.
Thank you to all my volunteers and thank you to the seniors who we are allowed to serve.
