COVID-19 Health Precautions for Day Programs

Fraser Health Authority Announcement

March 12, 2020

Attention: Clients and Caregivers attending Day Programs for Older Adults

In light of increasing concerns about the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), we would like to assure clients and families that we are taking appropriate measures to protect our clients, caregivers, staff and volunteers.  Older adults are particularly susceptible to acquiring illnesses.  As per our normal infection control protocols, we ask that clients and caregivers not attend the Day Program if you are sick.

What are the symptoms of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)? Common symptoms include mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough and difficulty breathing.

How can you protect yourself and your loved ones? To reduce the spread of infectious illnesses, including COVID-19, you should follow the usual health precautions:

  • Wash your hands: when you are coming into and leaving the Day Program
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Cover your cough/sneeze with a tissue or sleeve instead of your hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick

If you are unsure, call the Day Program care staff for further instructions before attending. As is usual practice, please advise Day Program staff if you are not attending the Day Program as scheduled due to illness.

Our Day Programs for Older Adults offer specialized care within a supportive, nurturing environment, ensuring our clients feel valued and respected in a safe environment. The Day Programs focus on the needs of each person as our clients have a variety of health, physical, or cognitive related issues. We build on the strengths of each individual, while being mindful of any limitations. We respect the client’s rights to choose and are supportive throughout their decision making process.

At the Day Program, each day we offer a variety of recreational programs, opportunities to socialize with peers, exercises that strengthen and promote safety, and health monitoring.

The Day Program also provides caregivers the respite needed enabling them to focus on their own personal well-being.

Seniors Come Share Society operates three Day Program locations to meet the needs of Surrey and White Rock. Click here to find the closest location near you.
