Christmas is a time of year when families come together to celebrate, but for older Canadian seniors, it can also be a time of great loneliness.

According to Statistics Canada, close to 1.5 million Canadian seniors report feeling lonely. This is an especially difficult time for seniors who having lost their lifelong partner, are experience a decrease in friends and are loosing a sense of independece due to increased difficulty in travelling alone. 

Seniors Come Share Society hosted a Christmas dinner last year for older adults in the community who, for one reason or another, found themselves alone at Christmas.

We do our best throughout the year to offer support through our community meal programs, coffee clubs, as well as other community programs geared towards making a difference in the lives of seniors and their families.

Christmas can be a particularly hard time for many people – even those with family – which is why we will be hosting another dinner this year. Help spread a little holiday cheer to isolated seniors in your community this particularly difficult season.
